George Michael stepping down as 4 sports anchor

Longtime WRC-TV 4 sports anchor George Michael is leaving his position on March 1, 2007. The move comes as staff cuts are being made at NBC-divisions across the board. Michael is not being laid off though, he says “if I have to lay somebody off. . . . I have to take the first bullet. It’s that simple.” The dean of D.C sports anchors actually turned down “an extremely, extremely beyond-my-wildest-dreams offer.” However, Michael will continue to host two panel shows and question Redskins coach Joe Gibbs on Mondays. The George Michael Sports Machine will end its run after 23 years though.

No word yet on whether Michael will reunite with Andrew Ridgeley.

I am so, so pleased that you made the Wham! joke before I had to.

“I have to take the first bullet”.

Its not the ammunition, but the size of the piece that matters most to our George.

Unlike Tiffany, I was very disappointed to see the Wham joke. I knew, upon reading the headline, that this was my golden moment.

    Shot down again.
