Hope for Metro gifts?

Last year I noted the shortcomings of WMATA’s online gift shop. Since the offerings have not improved, I figured I would use the last chance to chat with outgoing WMATA GM Dan Tangherlini to advance the cause for Metro merch:

Pentagon City, Va: If an all black t-shirt of my local Metro station was available, I’d buy it. I know there are currently white t-shirts, but black would look so much better. Also, $18.95 plus $6.95 for shipping is pretty steep. I bet a number of stores and musuem gift shops would be willing to sell the shirts too. I realize this not a big priority, but it would be cool and might even make a little money for WMATA. Thanks for your effort Dan, you will be missed!

Reply: Thanks for the kind words of support. But have no fear, we recognized the marketing opportunity too and we are currently looking for someone to help us manage Metro brand marketing in a coordinated way. I hope that soon you will be able to sport the stylish M-in-Square on all sorts of gear. I personally want to be able to give my girls a Metro train set…

This sounds promising, but how much attention will it get with Tangherlini gone? Concerned transit foamers can contact DCMetroStore.com or WMATA directly and tell them what the store needs to offer.
