Blogging your Nation’s Capitals
In a Metroblogging DC interview earlier this month, Capitals owner Ted Leonsis talked about reaching out the blogosphere as a way to overcome what he percieves as a lack of coverage from the MSM.
We have to find alternative means to promote our team and our players and I have great faith in people who blog. If they are blogging they are not doing it for a living, they are doing it out of passion and love and we are going to be the most blog friendly team and I hope the NHL becomes the most blog friendly league because it is a way to pay back these people on their passions and it also a way to get the good word out. That I am doing this interview with you is a good example. You blog, you care, so you deserve time and respect.
With that in mind here is a look at a number of Caps blogs.
Japers Rink – JP has blogged about the Caps for two seasons now. While his day-to-day stuff is excellent, the best thing he ever did was include Jaomir Jagr in the Japers’ Rink Ice Princess competition.

A View from the Cheap Seats – If you’ve stumbled on to my blog, all you really need to know about me is that I love hockey and am a lifelong Washington Capitals fan. This is an outlet for my frustration and a forum for sharing my joy as I follow my favorite guys all year round. If I can infuse just a little more “Caps love” into an otherwise dark and football-dominated world, I will have done my job. C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS!
DCCapsChick started in September. The pigeon avatar is a great reference to a stretch of games last season when a pigeon kept walking on the ice during play.

On Frozen Blog – A haven for the hockey malnourished. The coldest days best warm my hockey heart.
A brand new Caps blog that is already off to a great start. There was a great post about the Southeast division on Monday.

Puckhead’s Thoughts – Welcome to Puckhead’s Thoughts. A Washington Capitals Fan that has a lot to write, but is he saying anything?
Another blog that started up last year, post-lockout.

Capital Punishment – A Most Valuable Network blog. Not to be confused with Capitol Punishment from the Natmosphere.
Blogs with Caps coverage
Off Wing Opinion – Eric McErlain has been blogging about sports, especially hockey for over five years now. While he takes on sports at large, McErlain’s NHL coverage is among the most respected in the hockey blogosphere. This year he is focusing even more on the Caps with a podcast and by sitting in the pressbox at some games. He recently authored Guidelines for Granting Press Credentials to Bloggers and Other Online Media Representatives for Leonsis. He also recently started writing for NBCsports.com and has appeared on AOL’s Sports Bloggers Live. His The Free Market Sports Fan Manifesto is worth a read.

DC Sports Chick – A chick who likes sports; what else do you need to know?
DCSC focuses on the D.C. teams that don’t wear burgundy and gold. She loves Ovechkin and hates pink fashion jerseys. She has appeared on NBC4 and is now a regular WMET 1160 AM’s Sports Journey Radio Show.

Bleatings From a Caps Nut – A perspective on the Washington Capitals, the NHL, D.C. Sports teams, and the world of sports in general from a barely hinged observer.
Caps Nut is a fan of all D.C. teams and the Maryland Terps, but the Caps are his primary team. For a barely hinged observer, he keeps a pretty level head.

Capitals Insider – Beat writer Tarik El-Bashir’s blog on washingtonpost.com.
Full disclosure: I know some of these people.

Nice roundup! You covered all my must-reads! :-)
