The Three Sisters

Once when I was little my mom and I were taking a taxi back from National Airport. On the GW Parkway the creepy cabbie traumatized me with one of the many legends about the Three Sisters rock formation in the Potomac (seen here from the Key Bridge). He said three Native American sisters had fallen in love with three boys from a tribe that lived across the river. The father of the girls did not approve and told them that any attempt to see the boys would be met with a curse. Lovesick, the girls snuck away in the night and tried swimming across the river. The sisters drowned at the center of the river and turned to stone. The lesson? Don’t date guys from Virginia.
