Bye bye birdie

Good news for what Post columnist Marc Fisher called “The Quietest Spot Downtown.” 925 17th St NW will be shedding the money-losing, Orioles Store at the end of the year. Peter Angelo$, hated owner of Baltimore’s baseball team, is not renewing the store’s lease, according to today’s Baltimore Sun.

The Orioles store has been largely devoid of customers since the Nationals arrival before the 2005 season. It remained open because Peter Angelo$ insisted “it’s our territory.” Washingtonians have clearly disagreed, preferring not to support the franchise that has tried/tries to kill or maim D.C. baseball. District sales tax collectors must be ecstatic that the next tenant at the Farragut Square location will probably have actual customers.

So, does this mean that a Nationals store could be coming to that location? Don’t count on it. At a recent meeting for Nats season ticket holders, Stan Kasten indicated that he would be reluctant to open a store because they loss an awful lot of money.
