Sign of the Whale lives

Rumors that radio personality Mike O’Meara came up short in his bid to buy Sign of Whale have been confirmed by today’s Reliable Source in The Post. Had O’Meara been successful, it would have become a second O’Meara’s location, but it will now remain Sign of the Whale under new ownership:

Britt Swan, owner of Georgetown nightspots Modern and the Rhino Bar, told us yesterday that he intends to preserve the Sign of the Whale name and its old-school shabby gentility.

“It’s got a lot of character, a lot of history,” Swan said. He’s even filed incorporation papers under this name: Save the Whale LLC.

O’Meara and his business partner John Cantrell are looking elsewhere in the District for a second O’Meara’s location.
