Local Card Shark Closes in on WSOP Title
Day Six of the Big Event is complete in Las Vegas. It’s the magic poker tournament that costs a cool ten grand to enter, and the winner walks out with $12 Million. Rhett Butler, a Rockville MD resident, is in fourth place with 6.4M chips. The World Series of Poker is without question one of the more phenomenal events in the world of sports. Five years ago, it was a closet event that only the few heard of, now ESPN makes a Brinks Truck full of cash for each episode they show of the road to the WSOP, and then covering the big tournament itself. Today will probably whittle the field of 30-something down to a final table, which will then progress as long as is necessary.
Good luck, Rhett, we’re rooting for you!
Poker is a sport?
One could say the same thing about many of the “sports” covered.
NASCAR? How is that a sport.
Anything is a “sport” as long as it garners ratings. Sadly, in the States NASCAR is among the most popular, although everyone talks about FB/BB/BB. I believe internationally, soccer is #1. The popularity of Hockey, my personal favorite, has been slipping for years. Sigh.
