Young Andy Murray certainly had his chances, especially in the first set. He had a break of serve early, but Clement broke back. The same scenario repeated itself a second time and it went to a tie-break. Clement prevailed, taking the first set and after that it seemed the young Scottish player’s spirit was also broken. Clement breezed through the second and won the Legg Mason tournament in straight sets (7-6 (3), 6-2).

At the Acura Classic, it was Sharapova against Kim Clijsters, also in the finals. Clijsters, famous for her saves out wide, could not contain the energy of Sharapova, and also lost in straight sets (7-5, 7-5). It was the first time the young Russian superstar had beaten the Belgian player.
