Caps captain headed to Big D
Jeff Halpern’s Capitals career ended today when signed a four-year contract with the Dallas Stars. The Potomac native had played for the Capitals since 1999.
Last season, Halpern, the first Marylander to make the NHL, had the honor of being captain of his hometown team, a rare occurence even in Canadian cities. Japers Rink points out that the Caps do have two other Marylanders in their system though right now.
No word on when the Caps will name a new captain either; they may not bother naming another one until 20 year old Alex Ovechkin is ready.
