How much?

http://dc.metblogs.com/archives/images/2006/06/Andy-thumb.jpg Perhaps I just don’t get the Warhol fascination, or perhaps I’m just ignorant. I can appreciate the sight of an original Warhol, after all, I see one quite often when I dog sit for a local Georgetown resident. What I fail to understand however, is how anyone in their right mind could shell out $10,800 for Warhol’s silver wig, which went on the block at Christie’s in New York yesterday. It seems that Warhol’s nephew, Jeffrey Warhola, is in need of some quick dough. The silver wig was part of one of several lots containing Warhol memorabilia auctioned off yesterday.

I once spotted a window pane etched with the initials “CG” whilst sipping pints at the Red Lion in Cranford, England. I was subsequently told the story of old Clark Gable etching those lovingly preserved initials using a diamond ring whilst serving in the Army Air Corps shortly after his third wife, Carole Lombard died. Knowing this information, I can appreciate that a personally inscribed bracelet sold at auction for $7,800.

What I can’t understand is $10,800 for a wig? Can someone please explain this insanity?
