Bad Weather, Good Music Weekend

While Thor rains down his wrath this weekend (potentially adding us to the next CNN disaster-du-jour schedule and/or an Anderson Cooper fly-in), the hale and hearty will be schlepping and splashing their way from festival to festival, venue to venue, trying to take in all the great musical offerings. Friday night, the still-secret but soon-to-be-discovered honky-tonk, the Surf Club in Bladensburg, MD features the foot-stompin’ zydeco of Big Red. Saturday, there’s the Old Dominion Beer Festival – check out Robbie Fulks and the Iguanas — the National Capitol Barbecue Battle, headlined by local faves Chuck Brown on Saturday night and the Nighthawks on Sunday night. Alejandro Escovedo at 9:30 Club on Saturday is a must. Always wanted to get into a private club in Georgetown? Here’s your chance. Spend $25 and you get to see New Orleans’ slide guitar/jam band wizard Anders Osborne at the very swank and old City Tavern Club at Wisconsin & M. Cash bar and most-excellent roof deck.
