World Cup Fever

Although there are apparently bars aplenty to hit at any given time throughout the day here in Georgetown, it appears that the best venue for watching today’s fantastic match between England and Trinidad & Tobago happened to be my firm’s conference room.

Kickoff saw one supporter for each team hoarding the coveted conference room, but twenty minutes until the final whistle and both sides of the table were crowded. With the two England fans being rowdier than a pub full of hooligans it was [Peter] Crouch’s [Liverpool] cracking header from a Beckham assist that had us jumping out of our seats, mobiles a-buzzing with text messages.

Just as we started to settle down, taking back every bad word we uttered about Crouch’s apparently clumsiness throughout the match, we were riled once again by England’s possession of the ball. The next thing we knew, my man Stevie [Gerrard] [Liverpool] scored again with a stunning left foot drive right into the back of the net. The Trinidad & Tobago fans fled the room, missing a cracker of a goal by [Stern] John [Coventry] straight between England goalie [Paul] Robinson’s [Tottenham Hotspur] legs, but he was unfortunately offside.

“People Say football is a matter of life and death” , ” I believe it is much more important than that”. – Bill Shankly

No truer words have ever been uttered. With a song in my heart, I’m skipping through my day with a two-nil smile plastered upon my face.
