JetBlue, For the Win
Starting August 17th, JetBlue is taking on the Delta Shuttle.
JetBlue is launching Dulles to JFK service on August 17th, with introductory fares at $39 each way, and with regular fares no higher than $145, and walkup tickets of $90 each direction available. You’ve got 3 weeks to book the cheap fares, and you have to travel by the 30th of September. Total cost of a roundtrip ticket with taxes and fees works out to less than a benjamin so get your act together and book it already.
My devotion to JetBlue could only be explained through their amazing service, which you have to experience for yourself. Leather seats, TVs in every seat with 24 channels of DirecTV, and soon enough, inflight wireless internet access will be available, as they bought part of the spectrum that could be used for that. Sign me up!
You forgot to add in the $50 taxi fare each way for us District & carless folks. That extra $100, not to mention the traffic on 66 and the hour to get there means that only if flights were free would they be equal to a DCA-LGA or better yet, Union Station to Penn Station on the Acela.
The Acela is nothing but hype. Look at the travel times, for your extra $200 you get to shave a whole 15 minutes off your arrival verses the regular Amtrak route. Why? The so-called high speed train is worthless on rails that are decades out of date.
Cheapest way to NYC from DC is by (cough) bus. $20 each way. Shop around.
jet blue r0x0rs. anytime we need to travel out west, we ALWAYS look at jet blue first. always.
Except, Wayan, that you forgot about the Public Transit option. Metro to West Falls Church, and hop the comfy Washington Flyer bus straight to the airport. Or, there’s a bus straight to Dulles from L’enfant plaza.
If you really want to pay between $300-$500 to fly from DCA to LGA, by all means, but I’ll be hoofing it to Dulles to pay $100.
The Metro doesn’t go to the airport? Wow – I can’t even contemplate that.
Jet Blue is great… Flown them many times and am impressed with the service and on time schedule every time:
