Ah, Parking

Warning

With the church parking situation moving no closer to a resolution than in previous weeks, this sign made me chuckle to think what would happen if neighbors went the guerrila route in the battle for parking spaces. If you haven’t been keeping up with the Logan Circle Parking Problems blog, they’ve been doing a great job tracking all of the issues with neighborhood parking, double parking, church parking, and Monopoly Free Parking in the Logan Circle neighborhood.

Me, I find this sign to be one of the most hilarious things I’ve seen in weeks.

Does anybody in DC take the Placeholder approach to parking? It’s rather common in parts of Boston – take something (a folding chair, trash can, stolen road cone, whatever) and put it in your space when you leave. Moving somebody’s placeholder is about the equivalent of leaving a “Key Me, Smash My Windows, and Take My Tires” sign on the car.

The city cracks down on this every so often by confiscating placeholders, especially after heavy snowstorms when people try to mark the places they shovel out. Of course, people take advantage of this by “marking” their spaces with things like refrigerators and broken televisions — all the things the city normally refuses to haul off with the trash.

Oh where is it? At first I thought it was in front of a church!
