20 years of Heavy Metal Parking Lot

It was nearly 20 years ago that Jeff Krulik and John Heyn went the Capital Centre parking lot equipped with a video camera and a microphone to interview Judas Priest fans in their natural environment — the parking lot, tailgating before a concert. The finished product Heavy Metal Parking Lot, perfectly captured the mid-80s metal scene — lots of bad hair, bad clothes and walkin’ talkin’ stereotypes. VH1 called the cult classic the 16th most metal moment.

Bootleg videos of the documentary circulated for years and after several film festival appearances it is now available on DVD. To celebrate the anniversary, Metroblogging DC will be posting an interview with Krulik later this month — stay tuned!
