No jail for Mayor Barry

D.C. Councilmember Marion Shepilov Barry (D, Ward-8) was sentenced to three years of probation for failing to pay federal and local taxes. He may also have to submit to drug testing.

“To this court, I apologize,” Barry said in a low voice that nevertheless carried throughout the packed but silent federal courtroom. “Deeply sorry. To the citizens of the District of Columbia, I apologize.”
