A new name for the Nats?

Well, this one’s just so bizarre it hurts. The Nationals’ name may be a trademark violation. See, Bygone Sports claims the Nationals name is theirs. MLB says, “um, dude, we talked about this. We had a deal.” Bygone Sports says, “We never settled on final terms. You told me we could talk about ponies.”

The Nationals then shook their head, and took them straight to court. The final verdict is due on 3 April, which just happens to be opening day.

meh, i honestly don’t like the “nationals” as a name anyway. i wish they’d go back to the senators … or something along those lines. what is a “national”?

A “National” is a fairly generic name developed by MLB that the eventual new owners can replace with something more interesting… and sell a bunch more memorabilia.

I’ve always been afraid someone would decide to rename the team the Washington Reagan Nationals, so maybe another name is a good idea…
