Redesign!
Hey everyone, welcome to the brand spanking new Metroblogging DC. As you can tell, things are fairly different around here. Thanks to hard work from Jason Defillippo and Sean Bonner, we have this beautiful new look. Over the next few hours, we’re rolling it out to all 42 cities in the Metroblogging network. You can see that at the foot of each entry is a new set of little widgets, each of which have a cool purpose. Some you’re familiar with (IM, Email, Comments), and some of them are new (Technorati Cosmos, Tags, Categories, and a new Options menu.) but it’s still the same great Metroblog.
Be sure to check out the very swanky options list, especially if you’re fond of services like del.icio.us or Digg or many of the other great link aggregation services.
Comments? Thoughts? Complaints? Something not working like you think it should? Drop us a comment and let us know.
Extended entry is not working on Q&A The Great Society Subway.
this looks really nice
All fixed, WFY, thanks for the head’s up, and great interview!
scroll left…scroll right…..click to close….post a comment and it never shows up……man this sucks!
I see your comment just fine, Wasiq, could you let me know where you tried to post it? It’s possible that it was put into our moderation queue. What size browser window are you using that it’s causing scrollbars?
I don’t like it at all! But then again, I am stickler for some things remaining the same.
Can I ask what you miss from the old design, Medusa?
The old design seemed easier to read, the other MetroBlogging cities were all listed and one could easily click on them, and it was easier to see whether people had left comments on a specific entry.
The Metroblogging cities are now in a collapseable link at the right. Just click Metroblogging Cities, and the list will appear. Comments are still fairly well highlighted as part of each entry…
The font for the entries, I think, is larger and easier to read, we had a lot of complaints that we were causing early blindness…
I don’t like the format but then again, change is hard to accept when you come back to work and check on your fav blog to find it all changed! The feature I like which I don’t see here is the listing of recent entries at the bottom. I see the collapsible Recent Comments but no Recent Entries… I guess I can get used it but I like the old format -esp. seeing the top bar with images of the city.
The new design is OK, but I liked the old design better, as well. Like Medusa, I found it easier to read. I think what I miss most is that there were more complete posts without having to jump after only a couple of lines of text to get to the rest of the post. I find it annoying to have to open up every single entry, even if it is only a few more additional lines, or to see the pictures / graphics included. In the old format, I only had to do that once in a while, or to read comments. If it is possible, I would like to see an option to expand or collapse the posts like they use here http://www.blogtimore.com/ — for me, it would make it more ‘comfortable’ to read. Just one reader’s opinion. Thanks.
Bin, the Recent Entries are now down at the bottom of the index, and go back a decent ways, and the archives link at the right should cover what that misses.
ECG, I understand your issue with the excerpt entries, but we’re now putting up 15 stories on the front page, instead of the old 10, the last five are now Excerpted, so they’re a bit shorter, but still, more content is good :)
I do like the idea of a popdown for the last five.
Wow, thanks Tom, for the quick work. I had not even finished reading all the latests posts, when I refreshed and found the top 5 posts in expanded view. Excellent service, and I am enjoying the new, improved format! Thanks muchly!
