Well, one of the added benefits of our area is that we’re the only metro area to get CSPAN on regular broadcast radio (FM 90.1). Washington Journal always works to elevate the blood pressure on the way into work. All other areas have to get CSPAN radio via XM. Like the Smithsonian museums, we get to enjoy CSPAN for free on FM!

You can always listen to Elliot in the Morning on DC101 – he’s Canadian by birth, eh.

DC radio is such a depressing thing. Ever since we lost HFS to Annapolis, things have slid so badly here that it’s not even funny. 104’s morning drive gang makes me want to puncture my own ear drums with a fork. I personally pray for Matthew Blades and Whitney to catch some sort of nasty throat bug that dissolves their vocal cords, and most of the rest of the morning shows are little better.

Lately, I’ve switched to Elliott, if only because his voice will make anyone get out of bed and run to turn off the radio…

Hahaha, I’m afraid I can’t relate, since the only other radio I’ve experienced is the FM scene in Japan (which isn’t much to speak of at all), and the radio scene in Hawaii, which I enjoyed a lot. You could listen to Hawaiian 105 for local style and then tune into the Japanese NHK broadcast for global news (very much like the BBC Word broadcast, except in Japanese).

Reading the comments I posted has just helped me realize how boring of a person I must be – I mean, CSPAN radio for entertainment??? C’mon.

Just wanted to join in the 89X love. When I had a breakdown that could’ve gone a lot worse on the entrance ramp to 696 Christmas Eve night, being able to listen to rock instead of the ubiquitous Christmas carols on Mom’s crappy car radio helped keep me sane while waiting for a tow.

If you blocked everything but 88.5 on my FM radio I’d never notice. If I’m not listening to podcasts like the excellent Cinecast I’ve got the XM on.
