Who gets to be Little John?

Read a story in the Washington City Paper this week about some kids who held a guy up, walked over to the gas station at 13th and N, and offered to pump people $20 of gas for $10 – using the victim’s credit card.

At first it struck me as being kind of brilliant – like a real life Robin Hood or something. But then, I’m guessing the victim in this scenario is likely no King Richard.

It may be brilliant but it’s a very common way for criminals to turn stolen cards into cash. Some give a sob story about needing actual cash for some purpose where a credit card won’t do, others make no effort to make an excuse. Call the cops when you see it happening, they’re familiar with the scam and will come arrest the crook.
