I love the DC area, actually I live in Bethesda, but I've lived here 27/31 years. I love the fall here especially. We have all four seasons, great economy, nightlife, museums, monuments theatres, NFL,NHL, MLB and NBA teams and Blockbuster video. Whenever I'm away, I can't wait to come home. There's no place that I like better. But if a Katrina like hurricane hit,
See Ya! I'd be using lobbyists as paddles if I had to. I'm following the Uptown rats on my way out.

I spoke with a friend who served in Iraq and was in New Orleans. He said that Katrina created damage and destruction that he couldn't believe and had never seen before. This coming from a soldier who was in Fallujah.

I could come back, but not too quickly. Frankly, I'm suprised how many have gone back to New Orleans this soon. Do they really know what kind of environmental conditions they will be facing yet?

I'd head for the hills.

I remember back in 95 or 96 DC was having all kinds of freaky apocalypse weather. I saw a Metro Bus get blown sideways by wind on a wet 23rd st. I saw a baby in a stroller get ripped right out of her mother's hands by a flash flood. And the basement of the Lincoln Memorial filled with water while I was working during a monster storm. That was enough for me.

Yeah, I'd pack up the house, lock the doors tight and head for somewhere safe to run out the storm. Watching New Orleans proved to me we're not as enlightened as we'd like to be.
