And I needed a hoopdee!

I’m cheap. Picking up nickels on the sidewalk cheap. Way too cheap for even Flex Car, when I want a ride, I go old-school and hit the DC Abandon Vehicle Auction. Yeah, that’s right, it’s all about the hoopdee’s for me. Thanks to the City Paper’s excellent hoopdee buyers guide, I’ve skipped all those Flex Car fees for sweet disposable rides around town.

And today I was gonna pick up some fun for the weekend. I was thinking a land yacht, a 1980’s Caprice Classic or any Ford LTD. Both go for around $100 for the more, um, eclectically maintained rides, and would be perfect to cruise around in. I could even whip out the power saw and go convertible.

Alas, it is not to be. The District’s monthly abandoned vehicle auction has been cancelled. The auctions are normally held on the third Tuesday of the month at the Blue Plains Storage and Auction Facility at 5001 Shepherd Parkway, SW. But since the DMV is without A/C or sewer service, they’re postponing the sale to next month.

At least then there will be more options. Double, most likely. Care to hoopdee with me?

Hey! I’m the proud owner of a Ford LTD.

And I was the very proud owner of a 1981 Caprice Classic in the day. I could fit a dozen college friends in the car, trunk included, or better yet, just me & her. With deep dark tinted windows, it was the best chill/smoke/love shack ever.
