Don’t make eye contact

Two people broke the metro rule today – they talked to other passengers. Gasp! The first was a woman from another country, so we’ll let that slide. I think she was from Italy, and she wanted to make sure that she was on the right line to get to her stop. She probably picked me to ask because I didn’t look like I would glare at her if she talked to me.

The second was…well, you know how some people like to complain to strangers about various things, even though those people obviously couldn’t care less? The second guy was one of those. He was also a metro employee. He complained to me and a another woman about the government and taxes and the legal system and how they like to take money away from people who can’t afford to pay it. And I’m a little white girl from Falls Church, and I work with court reporters, so I can’t exactly relate. But you really see a lot of interesting people on the metro. Whether you want to or not.

Oh, and also? WALK TO THE LEFT. STAND TO THE RIGHT.
