DC’s weekly Industrial/Gothic dance party, Alchemy, is every Thursday at Nation.
This week my good buddy DJ Shameless will be doing a guest spot in the Main Room spinning all kinds of electro-industrial mayhem into the wee hours. So drag yourself out of the crypt for an enchanted evening of doom, gloom, glam and open bar.
“Creatures of the night. What beautiful music they make!” (Read aloud in best Sesame Street Count voice.)

The Red Line passengers are mad as hell, but there’s no sign of when Metro will get it’s head out of its ass.

The Curiosa Festival makes it’s DC area stop at the Merriweather Post Pavilion this Friday. The festival line-up was hand-picked by Robert Smith to represent the best of the new “dark” rock bands from the US and UK. And boy does it! The line-up includes Mogwai, The Rapture, Muse, The Cooper Temple Clause and Interpol who will play on alternating stages until The Cure take the main stage around 9:15. I previewed the fest in New Jersey last weekend and every band that played was on fire. Literally in the case of Mogwai who overpowered a monitor amp to the point that it burst into flames! The fun begins at 4PM.
Tickets are still available for this great day of music. Don’t miss it!

I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on the upcoming tax-free holiday. Basically, in the district between August 7th (this Saturday) and August 15th, there is no sales tax on clothing, shoes, accessories and school supplies, that cost under $100. It doesn’t matter how much your grand total is, as long as each item costs under $100, there will be no sales tax.
I’ll see y’all in Georgetown…

Hah! My sense of direction may suck, but here it is, independent verification that DC is the second least navigable city in America!
So there will be no more making fun of my ability to get monumentally lost.
Okay, well, maybe just a little.

Though I’m still stuck in Texas, I thought this was worth posting: A Metro Driver Abandoned His Train. This is so completely bizarre, I hardly even know where to begin. What the hell was the train operator thinking? What was the dispatcher thinking?
Wacky.
Am I surprised?
Nah, it’s Metro. Any amount of incompetence and stupidity is totally par for the course.

Of course, as soon as I leave town, all the fun begins. Apparently, hippies protestors from wealthy families aren’t the only people who hate the World Bank and IMF. Here’s hoping nothing happens, and this all just blows over. Be safe everyone.
